School themes for WordPress

I’ve just came across a collection of free school themes for WordPress. They will be useful for anyone building up an educational site, whether it’s for a school, an after school club, or even a particular class. There are a couple of good themes; I haven’t actually tried any out, but you can tell just by looking at them that they have some decent styling.

So, if you’re building a website for your class, or even setting up a sat prep site, check them out; I’m pretty sure you’ll find a theme that suits the idea you have in mind.

I’ve just upgraded my theme to the final edition of SuperPress, an excellent WordPress theme that lets you configure every aspect of the way your blog looks through an easy-to-use menu system. Here’s a run down of the features:

Funny Dogs Liberated

Here’s another liberated theme for you. As I’ve said in a previous post, one of the projects I’ll be undertaking on this blog is clearing up themes with encrypted sections. The WordPress mantra is that WordPress, it’s plugins and themes should be available for the public to use, without being crippled or impaired. However, a number of “free” themes not only have links put in the footer without the user’s consent, they are also encrypted in such a way that they really impact a site’s performance. For example, today’s liberated theme had a footer file that was over 250k in size. Your server needs to load this in, decrypt it then display it. And that needs to happen on every page load. You really don’t want stuff like that running on your server.

One of the things I’ll be using this site for is to liberate themes. The WordPress mantra is that WordPress, it’s plugins and themes should be available for the public to use, without being crippled or impaired. However, a number of “free” themes not only have links put in the footer without the user’s consent, they are also encrypted in such a way that they really impact a site’s performance. For example, today’s liberated theme had around 100+ obfuscation routines embedded within one another, which are a massive drain on your server’s performance, as your server needs to de-obfuscate the footer each time the page is displayed.
