WordPress Auction Plugin

Ever wanted to auction your stuff, but were worried about the charges eBay levies on you? Well, there’s a brand new release of WP Auctions, the auction plugin for WordPress that lets you sell items right off your blog. The new release has a number of new features, including:

  • The ability to restrict bidders to verified WordPress users
  • The ability to place auctions in a post or page
  • Different payment methods are accepted
  • Loads more new features

Personally, I think the biggest different for me is that I switched from using Prototype for the AJAX functionality to jQuery, mainly because Prototype doesn’t play nice with other libraries. I’m quite impressed with jQuery and will definitely use it more in the future.

So, if you want to use your blog to auction off ballet shoes, Naot sandals or even stink bombs, check out WP Auctions.

WordPress v2.8.2

There’s been another minor drop of WordPress, version 2.8.2, released just a few days after 2.8.1. It doesn’t look like much has changed but there’s one important change under the hood.

Apparently v2.8.1 had a cross-site scripting issue that allowed rogue plugins to potentially redirect an admin user to a different website. This could be an issue, though I personally don’t know if anyone would fall for that without noticing. I mean, if you had a website that sold pond supplies and you suddenly found yourself on a Russian site, you’d sorta know that something wasn’t kosher.

It’s not a major release, but head down and download WordPress 2.8.2

WordCamp UK is over

So, WordCamp UK has come to an end and unfortunately I couldn’t make it this year. But I’ve got my sights set on it and hope to be able to make it next year. There were some great speakers this year, and I would have loved to meet Matt Mullenweg, but it just wasn’t going to happen this time. It’s too close to our wedding anniversary (we’re off to Paris in a couple of days), we have twins on the way and the flights were just too expensive when I went to buy tickets.

I’ll be keeping a close eye on it next year, get my tickets in nice and early. People may be saving up for their next vacation, their Medicare supplement or even their pension .. me, I’ll be saving for Word Camp UK ;)

WordPress 2.8.1

Here’s one we’ve been waiting for for a couple of weeks. WordPress 2.8 brought about a number of improvements, but also introduced some bugs that needed fixing. A number of people I knew had theme issues (including Link4Business), and I knew a few who had problems with the dashboard running out of memory, including one apidexin reviews site. Anyway, 2.8.1 has a number of improvements and bug fixes including the following:

  • Certain themes were calling get_categories() in such a way that it would fail in 2.8. 2.8.1 works around this so these themes won’t have to change.
  • Dashboard memory usage is reduced. Some people were running out of memory when loading the dashboard, resulting in an incomplete page.
  • The automatic upgrade no longer accidentally deletes files when cleaning up from a failed upgrade.
  • A problem where the rich text editor wasn’t being loaded due to compression issues has been worked around.
  • Extra security has been put in place to better protect you from plugins that do not do explicit permission checks.

There are other fixes, but those are headline ones. So go ahead and download it!
