First Liberated Theme: Business Blue Liberated

One of the things I’ll be using this site for is to liberate themes. The WordPress mantra is that WordPress, it’s plugins and themes should be available for the public to use, without being crippled or impaired. However, a number of “free” themes not only have links put in the footer without the user’s consent, they are also encrypted in such a way that they really impact a site’s performance. For example, today’s liberated theme had around 100+ obfuscation routines embedded within one another, which are a massive drain on your server’s performance, as your server needs to de-obfuscate the footer each time the page is displayed.

So here is liberated theme number 1: Business Blue Liberated

WordPress 2.6 almost here

WordPress 2.6 is heading this way, with some interesting new features. It’s not as big a change as 2.5 but there are some new features that will be quite useful. The biggest change is tha ability for WordPress to keep previous versions of posts and pages, and show differences between revisions. This should make it easier for your to control your blog, especially if you have multiple authors. There’s also an integrated Word Count which means one plugin less for me to need on all my installations.
